REEP2 supports the Indonesian partner, the Ministry of Energy, in achieving the political target of a 23% share of renewable energies (RE) in electricity generation. The project works at both national and regional levels, in the second phase particularly in the target regions of Sulawesi and Nusa Tenggara Timur.
By building up the personnel skills and institutional capacities of key state and private sector actors, the regulatory and technical framework for promoting decentralized RE is to be improved. To this end, the module works in three areas with the following objectives: The capacities of the national general directorates for RE and electricity to regulate the electricity sector are improved (1); The capacities of the state-owned electricity supply company PLN with regard to decentralized RE have improved (2); The private sector's capacity for innovative technologies and business models has been strengthened (3).
