Initial Situation: The project intervenes both at national and sub-national level in three provinces: Central Java, Bangka-Belitung, Central Sulawesi. They are diverse in stages of conservation, restoration, socioeconomic development and land-use change dynamics. Coastal areas are under pressure of degradation through the expansion of aquaculture in mangrove ecosystems, industrial land-use, and unsustainable fishing. Unsustainable mining and improper waste management constitute threats to land and marine ecosystems.

Goal: Local and national stakeholders including women and disadvantaged groups use Ecosystem Approaches (EA) in their sustainable management of Land and Seascapes

(LaS) leading to climate-resilient livelihoods (CRL).

Approach:

The project aims to mitigate the degradation of land and seascapes in

Indonesia, increasing the resilience of ecosystems and thereby promoting

climate-resilient livelihoods. National, sub-national and local

stakeholders will improve spatial and development planning by incorporating

principles of green and blue economy including the protection,

restoration and management of natural and semi-natural ecosystems,

addressing water pollution, the promotion of sustainable business models,

ecotourism and integrated waste management in ecotourism sites,

access to sustainable finance and supply chain partnerships. This will

lead to sustainable management of aquatic systems and agricultural

and agroforestry lands from ridge to reef in Central Java, Bangka-Belitung

Islands, and Central Sulawesi. Upscaling will enhance national

planning processes and promote a strong interest among farmers—

including young people, women and indigenous groups—in improving

their aquaculture and agroforestry practices nationwide.
