Context
In Northern Shan, the population consists of diverse ethnic groups, including Shan, Kachin, Palaung, Kokang, and Wa. Ongoing violent conflicts between the Myanmar military and Ethnic Armed Organisations (EAOs) and among various ethnic groups have led to prolonged displacement, migration, loss of livelihoods, and increased tensions.
The project aims to provide vocational training to conflict-affected individuals, enhancing their technical skills to improve their employment and self-employment opportunities.
Objective
Youth, young people, and women affected by conflict and displacement in Northern Shan have improved their living conditions and income perspectives.
Approach
The approach and activities are adapted to the context of Northern Shan and are intended to meet the demands of private enterprises through strong market linkages, with the goal of improving the livelihoods of the target group. With the steps taken the project aims to:
- Provide professional training, employability skills, and business skills to people in the regions and support start-ups. These efforts address both internally displaced people (IDPs) and host communities.
- Support local cooperation partners in providing skills training to further increase impact and yield lasting improvements.
The project is working with several national and international non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and cooperates with private enterprises in Northern Shan.
