Context:
Vietnam has committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and achieving climate-neutrality by 2050. To reach this goal, the country must not only invest in renewable energy and energy efficiency, but also reshape its economy and society. A just transition is essential to ensure that all segments of society benefit from the advantages of economic transformation. Natural resources in Viet Nam, such as sunlight and wind, can be harnessed to generate sustainable energy and contribute to climate protection. Companies are increasingly recognising the business opportunities that arise from more environmentally and climate-friendly products and practices - for example in agriculture, the textile industry, tourism and the electronics sector.
Objective:
Vietnam is implementing its climate neutrality goals by strengthening green economic and structural policies, as well as improving institutions, service providers, vocational training, and the labour market.
Approach:
The project works with:
- companies to improve their environmental performance and promote inclusive practices,
- government institutions to develop supportive laws and policies for environmentally and climate-friendly business practices, and
- education and training providers to adapt vocational training programmes to the skills requirements of a green economy.
