India is among the few countries to have achieved a positive trend in forest & tree cover which stands at 24.6% against the 33% National Forest Policy 1988 target. Areas with serious forest & land degradation stress exist (43% are degraded). India is making concerted efforts to meet its national targets, Bonn Challenge and NDC goals. In 4 states, RECAP4NDC enables actors to effectively plan, finance, implement and monitor Forest Landscape Restoration (FLR) and Trees Outside Forests (TOF) measures. The project addresses gaps in adopting landscape approaches, implementation challenges, funds access, MRV and knowledge exchange by enhancing capacities, leveraging stakeholder interest and augmenting policy support. By 2029, RECAP4NDC aims at achieving ecological, socio-economic, governance & climate change benefits in 0.4 m ha of landscape, capturing 10 mtCO2e in 10 years. 10 m people will benefit from improved ES. Upscaling will lead to restoration of 1.1 m ha and 110 mtCO2e in 10 years.
