Context:
Benin faces the challenge of creating more decent jobs for a growing young population. Micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) are the backbone of the Beninese economy. However, these enterprises are impacted by low productivity and limited access to markets, financing and trained personnel. Women, young people and enterprises in structurally weak regions are particularly disadvantaged.
Objective:
The competitiveness of MSMEs has improved in selected regions and sectors in Benin, with a positive impact on employment.
Approach:
The project identifies sectors and value chains with high employment potential and supports MSMEs through advisory services and tailored training and coaching formats – primarily in entrepreneurial and technical skills, soft skills, digitalisation and environmentally responsible corporate management.
Together with public and private partners, the project develops and consolidates business models and support services that promote sales and cooperation. At the same time, it advises and trains employment agency staff.
The project is being implemented in partnership with the Ministry of SMEs and Employment Promotion, the Benin Agency for the Development of SMEs, the National Employment Agency and local employment service officials.
