Context:
The security situation in Mali is tense and the country is experiencing political instability. The current government is continuing its efforts to stimulate development by means of basic social services, economic development and social cohesion. The country needs better conditions for economic development, and for social and economic participation. In some cases, however, public sector decision-makers lack the skills and financial resources to drive forward development. Public and private sector representatives are not adequately connected.
Objective:
Public and private sector stakeholders in regions and communities are working together to stimulate socio-economic development in line with local circumstances and development needs.
Approach:
The project supports regional and local institutions, elected representatives and state services in improving economic development. It assists public structures, companies and the population and advises administrations with regard to making better use of infrastructure, such as markets. The project uses a fund to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in selected sectors. This includes providing training to enhance entrepreneurial skills and to allow people to learn processing techniques or new craft skills. The project involves regional administrations and civil society organisations in the design and implementation of the fund. By doing so, it ensures that the measures reflect the population’s needs and potential. In addition, the project is continuing to develop dialogue platforms in order to facilitate economic development.
