Context:
Since the fall of the Assad regime at the end of 2024, many people have been returning to Syria – both refugees from abroad and internally displaced persons to their regions of origin. At the same time, infrastructure, basic services and economic prospects are severely limited. Local administrations are reaching their limits, while high unemployment and poverty characterise the daily lives of many people. Coexistence between returnees, internally displaced persons and the people of host communities is becoming increasingly challenging, and long-term reintegration is being hampered.
Objective:
Returnees, internally displaced persons and people in host communities are better integrated into economic and social life in selected regions of Syria.
Approach:
The project focuses on three priority areas: It advises local administrative structures and supports them with training so that they can better plan and implement measures for reintegration and social cohesion, It refurbishes and expands rural development centres so that people can access essential public services more easily. It supports MSMEs through training, advice and financial support so that they can increase their income and create new jobs.
